Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that the successor to the Aventador will feature an all-new engine.
It has long been known that the Aventador would be the final V12-powered supercar produced by Lamborghini without some form of electrification. It had been speculated that the new supercar would feature a similar hybrid powertrain to the limited-edition Sian but during a recent interview with Autoblog, Winkelmann revealed that this will not be the case.
According to Winkelmann, Lamborghini has extracted all the power that it can from its current 6.5-liter V12 and the Aventador’s successor will have a new V12. He said it is too early to reveal details such as the displacement of the engine but told the publication it’s not something we’ve seen before. He added that it won’t share technology with the Sian.

“The technology is different, it’s a completely new engine, a completely new drivetrain, a new battery, everything is completely new. There’s nothing out of the Sián or out of the Aventador [in the next flagship],” he said.
While the new supercar will feature an all-new powertrain, it will maintain features like all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, just like the Aventador. It will also use carbon fiber extensively in its construction to reduce weight. There also won’t be any forced induction in sight, meaning we’ll be able to enjoy a naturally spirated V12 in all its glory.
Lamborghini is sending out the Aventador in style with the Ultimae edition, which is capped at just 600 examples worldwide.
