Volkswagen of American is bidding farewell to the Passat, as the Chattanooga, Tennessee-built sedan will sing its swan song with the 2022 model year. To celebrate the history of the car, VW will see it out with a 2022 Passat Limited Edition.
The family sedan was the first vehicle built at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant, part of the automaker’s reentry into American manufacturing. To celebrate the car’s special significance for the brand, the run of special vehicles has been designed to celebrate its history.
The total number of Passat Limited Editions (1,973) is designed to celebrate the first year the Passat entered production in Germany. Of those, 411 are being finished in Aurora Red Metallic with a Titan Black interior. That number honors that original vehicle’s production code.

To celebrate the car’s link to Tennessee, 524 will be finished in Pure White with a Mauro Brown interior to celebrate the date (May 24) when production began at VW’s American plant. Chattanooga’s telephone area code, 423, has been chosen for the number of Passats in Racing Green Metallic with a Mauro Brown interior. The final 615 will be finished in Platinum Grey Metallic with Titan Black interior to celebrate six generations of Passat, one generation assembled in Chattanooga, and five decades of U.S. sales.
Regardless of color, every Passat Limited Edition will come with distinctive wheels and mirror caps to distinguish it from the rest. They will also get 15-spoke 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and black mirror caps as standard, as well as LED headlights with Advanced Front-Lighting System and an Easy Open trunk.

In the cup holder, there’s a special mat that features an aerial map of Chattanooga and an aerial drawing of the factory. The Limited Edition Passat gets comfort sport seats with perforated Vienna leather seating surfaces, a memory function for the power driver’s seat, heated front and rear seats, a power passenger seat, Fender Premium Audio, Park Assist, and automatic high beams.

Pricing for the 2022 Limited Edition Passat starts at $30,295 plus $995 destination. The Aurora Red Metallic color is the only one that’s optional, and costs an additional $395. The US-spec Passat is different than the European model and was exported to Canada, Korea, and Middle Eastern markets.
