Alongside the new generation A-Class, B-Class, the GLA and the boxy GLB crossover , Mercedes-Benz is also working on the development of the next CLA.
The sleek-looking four-door coupe has been recently spied testing on the streets of Germany, after it was spotted by our vigilant spy photographers in northern Sweden, but Mercedes is not willing to reveal its design details just yet.
As expected, the prototype features plastic cladding and and a lot of camo, mostly centered on its front end. Nevertheless, the 2020 CLA will adopt some styling cues from the AMG GT Concept shown last year at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, as well as the latest CLS that was unveiled last December.
Inside, it will look pretty much like the rest of the brand’s compact cars, as the dashboard will feature the dual-screen layout that was shown at CES 2018, dubbed ‘Mercedes-Benz User Experience‘ (MBUX). The infotainment system brings two 10.25-inch displays in range-topping trims, two 7-inch ones in lesser versions, and one 7-inch and one 10.25-inch screen in mid-range models.
Powering the second-gen CLA will be an assortment of four-cylinder petrol engines, including the Daimler-Renault-developed 1.3-liter unit, and some diesels, which could be joined, later on, by an electrified model.
AMG are believed to be working on a CLA45 version as well, which will share its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with the upcoming A45, making in excess of 400hp and challenging the likes of the Audi RS3 Sedan and BMW M2 Coupe.
An exact reveal date hasn’t been announced yet, but we expect the next Mercedes-Benz CLA to debut sometime in 2019.
