While we are eagerly waiting for the premiere of the new-generation BMW 7 Series which is expected to be unveiled in prototype form this September, a picture supposedly showing the new car started circulating online. As we discovered, the image that puzzled BMW fans is just a photoshop render based on the current BMW 7 Series configurator.

It all started from the German Car Forums member yuc4life, who created a few quick renderings altering the design of the BMW 7 Series. One of them incorporates the split-headlight design seen on camouflaged mules of the new-generation 7-Series and the facelifted X7, combined with an enlarged chrome grill, slim side intakes, and a blacked-out part on the front bumper.
Some people mistakenly thought the rendering was an official configurator leak, failing to notice the resemblance with the current 7 Series in the identical glasshouse and side profile of the car, plus the weird reflections seen on the front-end. The creator of the image jokingly wrote: “I’m laughing so hard right now, Seeing people actually share my silly render on Instagram thinking it’s some sort of a “leak”. They should be blind to not understand that It’s a PS”.
Photographer Wilko Blok posted a low-resolution version of the image on Instagram, asking his followers whether this was a leak or a photoshop. Judging from the comments, answers were divided as some people immediately recognized the edit but there were also many others that kept complaining about BMW’s design language thinking that this was indeed the upcoming model.

The truth is that a low-resolution image can be deceiving, but all of us know that the all-new generation 7-Series won’t share body panels with the current one. As we have seen from the spy photos, the model will have evolutionary styling in its profile, with more visible changes in the front and rear ends. Would you like it if the new bavarian flagship had split headlights?
