General Motors has resurrected a popular nameplate with the GMC Hummer EV and tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee recently had the opportunity to check it out in person.

Brownlee was offered an up-close look at both the Hummer EV pickup and the Hummer EV SUV. In this clip, he discusses some of the most intriguing features of the duo, including some features that you may not have previously known about.

One intriguing feature about the Hummer EV is the fact that it has three windshield wipers as two regular wipers wouldn’t do the job as the windshield is so wide and yet relatively low. In addition, the pickup variant has an intriguing tailgate that folds down in stages and houses a little step that makes climbing into the bed much easier. Another innovative feature is the complex LED headlight array that can display the battery’s state of charge when it is plugged in.

Then there’s the powertrain. The flagship Hummer EV Edition 1 features three electric motors that combine to produce 1,000 hp. Even though the truck is thought to weigh approximately 9,200 lbs (4,173 kg), it can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3 seconds with the ‘Watts to Freedom’ launch control system.

Interestingly, the Hummer EV SUV’s flagship tri-motor powertrain is limited to 830 hp, meaning it can hit 60 mph in ‘only’ 3.5 seconds. It is thought that this smaller figure is due to the fact that the SUV is slightly smaller than the pickup and has a 20-module Ultium battery pack compared to the 24-module pack of the pickup.
