The story of the GT40 has been told a thousand times, but this replica helped tell it the best as it is one of the cars built for the 2019 film “Ford v Ferrari.”
More correctly, I should say the Oscar-winning “Ford v Ferrari,” which I believe kinda makes this an Oscar-winning car. How’s that for provenance? And now it’s up at auction.

Although it’s a replica, this GT Fauxty (too much of a reach?) was made to look just like the real thing inside and out, which, as you can see, means the interior is pretty spartan.
Despite that, it features a 5.7-liter V8 and a six-speed transmission, not the 7.0-liter engine and 4-speed transmission the real cars used. Though not entirely accurate, it’s likely an easier setup to live with, which, for most buyers, is likely the plan for this car.
Numbered 3 for the Le Mans scenes, it’s currently wearing Dan Gurney‘s Number 88 livery that was used for filming the 24 Hours of Daytona scenes, which you can see above.
Along with the car, the seller will include a signed movie poster along with movie car documentation, which will likely look pretty good set up next to the car at your next local car show.
Set to cross the auction block at Mecum’s Dallas sale that’s running between September 8-11, this could be the perfect addition to any collection or movie museum.
