The Tesla Model S has just been hit with a $5,000 price hike in yet another instance of the automaker routinely altering its prices.
Tesla’s website was recently updated to show that the Model S Long Range now starts at $91,190 (including a $1,200 delivery fee) having been previously priced at $86,190.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Tesla has increased prices for the Model S recently. In fact, the Model S Long Range’s starting price was increased by $5,000 just a few weeks ago, meaning it is now $10,000 more expensive than it was roughly a month ago.
Tesla hasn’t stated why it has bumped up the price of the Model S Long Range but Autoweek notes that it could be an attempt to maximize profits on each Model S it sells as it may expect sales to drop with the arrival of new EV rivals, including the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Audi e-tron GT.
Tesla only currently sells two variants of the Model S, the Long Range and the flagship Plaid. The Model S Long Range has a quoted range of 405 miles on a charge while the Plaid has an estimated range of 348 miles. Tesla appears to be enjoying adequate demand for the Model S Plaid as its price hasn’t been tweaked in line with the Long Range and continues to start at $131,190. Admittedly, that is $10,000 more than initially promised after Tesla’s decision to kill off the Model S Plaid+.
