Ford will delay deliveries of some Mustang Mach-E models by a minimum of six weeks due to the global semiconductor shortage.

A letter from the automaker to reservation holders recently leaked online confirming the delay.

“Dear Future Mustang Mach-E Owner,” the letter reads. “The global semiconductor chip shortages are affecting our ability to keep up with demand. While that’s no excuse, it’s a reality. We’d like you to know that while we’re working nonstop to deliver your very own Mustang Mach-E vehicle, we project your vehicle delivery will be delayed by a minimum of six weeks. Once your vehicle receives the required chip, your vehicle status will be updated, and you’ll receive an email with an estimated week of delivery.”

The letter states that owners impacted by the delay are those with orders that were produced or scheduled from July 5, 2021 through October 1, 2021 and that affected owners will be provided with an additional 250 kWh of complimentary charging on the Ford Blue Oval Charge Network.

Auto News adds that the delay only impacts Mustang Mach-E models that have already been built and are awaiting chips. As such, Mach-E production continues at the automaker’s factory in Cuautitlan, Mexico.

“The global semiconductor shortage continues to affect global automakers and other industries in all parts of the world,” Ford said in a statement. “We are working closely with all of our key suppliers to address production constraints tied to this global semiconductor shortage so we can continue to build Mach-E vehicles, and get them to our customers as quickly as we can.”
