A prototype of the facelifted Focus ST has just been spotted in the wild, looking ready for its imminent debut. The hot hatch was spied testing dressed in bright green color, together with a non-ST variant, both wearing light camouflage.
While we have seen spy pictures of the upcoming 2022 Ford Focus facelift in both hatchback and wagon bodystyle, in regular and Active trim levels, we were all curious about the future of its performance variant.

The current fourth-generation Ford Focus ST was unveiled in 2019 as one of the most potent front-wheel-drive hot hatches. After the RS program was canceled, the ST became the performance flagship of the Focus range.
As we can see from the spy pictures, the facelifted model retains most -if not all of the bodywork of its predecessor. The light camouflage is hiding subtle changes which will freshen up the look of the spiced-up Focus. Those will include a pair of slimmer full-LED headlights (dark-tinted in the ST), a redesigned front bumper with a honeycomb grille, plus updated LED graphics for the taillights. Interior changes will likely focus on an updated infotainment touchscreen, with more connected services and ADAS systems available.
While there are rumors for an electrified Focus ST, they apply to the all-new next-generation model. The 2022 facelift is expected to carry on with a slightly updated version of the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, while we can’t be sure about the survival of the 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel.
The current model produces 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS) with the petrol engine and 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) with the diesel. Power is sent to the front axle through a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic. The updated Focus ST will likely retain the electronically controlled eLSD with hydraulically activated clutches, the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) technology, the optimized steering knuckle design, and the selectable Drive Modes.

The facelifted Ford Focus ST is expected to be unveiled in the coming months, together with the rest of the range. Besides the five-door hatchback, it is possible that Ford will continue offering the ST in the more practical wagon bodystyle. Rival models include the likes of VW Golf GTI, Renault Megane RS, Hyundai i30 N, and the mighty Honda Civic Type R.
