BMW’s upcoming 8-Series flagship coupe is undergoing the final stages of development before the thin wraps finally come off.
The new 8-Series was actually leaked in its full production glory last month but that didn’t stop the Bavarians from releasing a set of official pictures and videos, showing off a lightly camouflaged prototype.
The new Bimmer will use the same underpinnings with the 7-Series, meaning that it will share most of the powertrains and technological features of the company’s flagship sedan.
The range of the 2019 BMW 8-Series will be topped by a V12 version which will come after the official launch and -for the first time ever- a proper M8 version. The latter will likely use the biturbo 4.4-liter V8 and configurable all-wheel drive system that debuted with the M5.
The smart exterior design of the new 8-Series will be rather unsurprisingly a toned-down version of the Concept, with the body getting the typical sports coupe proportions, with muscular shoulders and of course a wide kidney grille.
The interior is expected to be a fresh design and not related to the usual dashboard architecture of the four-door BMWs. The company’s push towards more luxurious (and therefore more expensive) categories means that we should expect a new approach, with plush materials and trims, and of course lots of tech features and high-res digital displays.
Having an impressive cabin is one of the most important areas if you want to go after the Mercedes S-Class Coupe and Bentley Continental GT, and BMW knows that.
Having already revealed the GTE race version of the 8-Series at the 24 Hours of Daytona this weekend, the official reveal of the production version should be just weeks away. As for when the new BMW 8-Series is going to reach the market, the latest information talk about launching in Europe in late summer.
