Mercedes has decided to try and make IAA Munich 2021 all its own by bringing all kinds of vehicles to the show. Among the EVs and the new products is the upcoming Mercedes-AMG Project One, sporting intriguing wheels.

Not entirely dissimilar to the center locking wheels we’ve seen in previous glamour shots, these wheels feature what look like new carbon fiber vents. Designed, presumably, to master the air in one way or another, the vents mostly hide the brake caliper that has previously been almost entirely visible.

Although previous versions of the preproduction car have sported vented wheels, they largely featured a version whose opening faced the center of the wheel. These vents, appear to be larger and their openings seem to face in the direction opposite the one that the wheels will spin.

Interestingly, these are the same wheels that feature on the car in the press shots sent out by Forza Horizon 5.

Featuring a number of advanced aerodynamic elements, like those vents at the top of the front wheels and that massive active wing at the back, these new wheels are likely the result of countless hours in the wind tunnel and may provide brake cooling or general aerodynamic advantages.

Limited to just 275 units, Mercedes boasts that the Project One will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine and four electric motors that will combine for more than 1,000 hp (746 kW/1,014 PS). Just how much more, though, is the subject of some speculation, with rumors suggesting that the final power level could be as high as 1,200 hp (895 kW/1,216 PS).

As you would expect, this Formula 1 inspired hypercar commands a big asking price of $2.72 million.
