It has only been a few months since the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder was launched and already, a recall for the new SUV has been announced.

A recall notice issued by Nissan revealed that certain Pathfinder vehicles may have been manufactured with insufficient welds on the secondary hood latch retainer bracket. If this is the case, the retainer bracket may move out of position and result in partial secondary hood latch engagement. The retainer bracket could also detach completely from the front bumper assembly and will not engage.

This faulty part could trigger the hood to open with warning, obstructing the driver’s view of the road and obviously increasing the risk of a crash. Nissan says the problem was caused by a “welding equipment maintenance issue.”

Nissan became aware of the issue on June 23, 2021, when a Nissan technician noticed that the secondary hood latch retainer bracket of a 2022 Pathfinder was detached on the production line. The Japanese automaker launched an investigation and while conducting an audit of 4,376 vehicles at its Smyrna factory, found 9 Pathfinder models that contained insufficient welds, prompting the recall.

In total, 3,030 Nissan Pathfinder models are being recalled. They were built between June 10, 2021, and July 28, 2021. Nissan states that no other models from the Nissan or Infiniti brands are affected.

To resolve the issue, Nissan dealerships will inspect and, if necessary, replace the secondary hood latch brake. Dealerships were notified on September 14 while owners will be notified on October 21.
