Stellantis has officially confirmed that the fifth-generation 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be unveiled on September 29, including the plug-in hybrid 4xe variant. The reveal was initially planned for the 2021 New York Auto Show in August, but the show’s cancellation postponed it.
As we have seen from the official teaser, the Grand Cherokee is expected to share most of its design with the Grand Cherokee L but it will feature a shorter wheelbase and a slightly different design for the rear end. More specifically, the redesigned D-pillar in combination with the new chrome-finished window line is creating a “floating roof” effect.
The two models will most likely share the same dashboard design, including the 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen display. The difference between them will have to do only with the number of seats, as the Grand Cherokee is expected to get a two-row layout, unlike the three-row Grand Cherokee L.

In terms of powertrains, besides the new plug-in hybrid variant, we expect the short-wheelbase model to get the same Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 (290 hp), and 5.7-liter Hemi V8 (357 hp) as its long-wheelbase sibling. Both will be mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with an optional AWD system. Other features could include the Quadra-Lift adaptive air suspension system.
