A particularly well-kept 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is heading to auction next month and could be the perfect car for anyone that loves classic American muscle.

As a 1978 model, this Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has the slanted front nose facelift that was introduced in 1977 and is powered by a 400 cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 with a four-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor that delivers 220 hp and 325 lb-ft (441 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels courtesy of a four-speed manual transmission.

This Firebird will be sold by Mecum Auctions and the listing notes that it has only ever been driven 9,800 miles (~15,700 km) and is one of the 4,112 examples that were produced in 1978. It is also equipped with the WS6 special performance package and sits on 15×8-inch Snowflake wheels.

Elsewhere, the hood includes the famous firebird on the hood while there is also a large Trans Am sticker on the tailgate. The listing notes that all exterior parts are original, except for the Croker tires that were fitted last year.

The interior is clad in bright red materials across the seats, dashboard, center console, door panels, carpets, and headliner. A red interior can be a nightmare to maintain and keep clean but the owner appears to have done a very good job of maintaining it and making it look like it just rolled out of the factory.
