Kia is recalling almost 90,000 Sedona models from the 2015-2017 model years as the turn signals may flash in the wrong direction.

In its recall notice, Kia says that a Smart Junction Box (SJB) of 2015-2017 Sedona models is used to interpret the signal from the multifunction switch to determine the intended turn signal direction. However, a software issue in the SJB may not properly interpret the signals received from the multifunction switch, meaning the turn signal may intermittently activate in the opposite direction of what was intended by the driver.

Vehicle production records determined that impacted vehicles were manufactured between July 21, 2014 and June 10, 2016. In total, 88,576 models in the U.S. are involved in the recall.

Kia will notify owners of affected vehicles via first-class mail from November 12, 2021 with instructions to bring their vehicles to a dealer to have the Smart Junction Box software updated with an improved version. The automaker will also reimburse owners for any repair expenses already incurred to resolve the issue.

Kia replaced the Sedona with the all-new Carnival earlier this year. As we recently discovered in our review of the 2022 Carnival, it is a significant improvement over the old Sedona and is also a minivan unlike any other.
