The General Motors Design page on Instagram routinely shares images of some very interesting cars that never saw the light of day. This hardcore Camaro is one of them.

The detailed rendering showcases an aggressively-styled Camaro that Muscle Cars & Trucks speculates could have formed the basis of a sixth-generation Camaro Z/28. Unfortunately, such a car will not be produced.

The car pictured here shares some obvious similarities to the current Camaro ZL1 equipped with the optional 1LE package. For example, it has the same towering rear wing, rocker panels, and carbon fiber hood. However, it does feature some elements that not even the ZL1 has.

For example, it has been equipped with the latest headlights of the sixth-generation model, while the ZL1 rocks the headlights of the pre-facelift Camaro. It also features a distinctive grille, a more pronounced front splitter, split canards, and aggressive air intakes positioned directly below the headlights.

General Motors originally intended to follow up the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28 with a new one. However, the project was axed as part of a restructuring plan initiated within the automaker at the end of 2018.

The new Camaro Z/28 was apparently going to feature a 6.6-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with over 500 hp dubbed the LT3 or could have even had the 5.5-liter V8 of the C8 Corvette Z06. Chevrolet engineers were also expected to drastically reduce the vehicle’s weight to ensure that around a racetrack, the Z/28 was quicker than the ZL1 1LE despite having significantly less power.
