2022 Kia Forte Unveiled For North America With Revised Styling And More Tech

Following the recent facelift of the Korean-spec K3, Kia has introduced the 2022 Forte for North America with a number updates.

The 2022 Kia Forte is available in four trim levels – FE, LXS, GT-Line, and GT – with the optional Technology (LXS, GT-Line, GT) and Sport Premium (GT-Line) packages.

The compact sedan known as Forte, Cerato, or K3 in different markets around the globe is on its third generation since 2018, making this a mid-life facelift.

In terms of the exterior design, the press release was accompanied by a single picture showing just the front end of the 2022 Kia Forte GT. The redesigned face includes new elongated LED headlights that are now merging with the slimmer tiger-nose grille, as well as a more sculpted bumper with stylish intakes and additional LEDs.

Τhe profile looks identical to its predecessor, but the rear end will most likely feature a slightly revised bumper, new LED taillight graphics for the GT and GT-Line, an updated KIA emblem, plus a trunk lid spoiler, just like the Korean-spec K3. Kia also announced new 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheel designs for the LX and GT-Line trims.

The 2022 Forte is also getting a new 10.25-inch central touchscreen (GT and GT-Line) with navigation, or an 8-inch touchscreen (FE, LXS) supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The standard 4.2-inch screen in the instrument cluster means North America doesn’t get the fancy 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster of the Korean-spec flagship trims.

Other changes include the electronic parking brake with auto hold, the optional rear USB charger, the available SynTex synthetic leather upholstery plus the Smart Key offering remote start. Safety equipment now includes six standard ADAS, with up to 15 available systems including the Highway Driving Assist, the Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, and the Safe Exit Warning.

Like its predecessor, the 2022 Kia Forte is available with two engines. The FE, LXS, and GT-Line are fitted with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter MPI four-cylinder producing 147 hp (109 kW / 149 PS) and 132 lb-ft (178 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front axle through an Intelligent Continuously Variable Transmission (IVT), with the FE trim achieving 41 MPG on the highway.

The more powerful GT variant has a turbocharged 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder producing 201 hp (150 kW / 203 PS) and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque. In this case, buyers can choose between a standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual. The GT also gets a sporty suspension setup with a multi-link rear axle, dual exhaust pipes, and stronger brakes.

The 2022 Kia Forte will be produced in Monterrey, Mexico. Kia didn’t announce pricing which is expected to be close with the outgoing model. We don’t have any information about the fate of the Forte 5 hatchback since Kia only announced the Forte sedan for MY 2022.
