Like any business, the world’s largest automakers look to maximize profits at every turn. However, every once in a while, they decide to reward their employees with generous bonuses.
In a statement, Daimler has announced that entitled tariff-scale employees across the company will be paid a bonus of up to 5700 euros (roughly $7000) as a gesture of goodwill following the brand’s successful 2017. In total, 130,000 tariff-scale employees in Germany will receive the bonus with their April pay.
“Our employees contributed substantially to make 2017 the most successful year of Daimler’s company history so far,” member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Human Resources and director of Labor Relations & Mercedes-Benz Vans, Wilfried Porth said.
“We want to honour this outstanding performance with a profit-sharing bonus and thank our colleagues for their relentless dedication. The bonus shows that we adequately share the company’s success with our employees. Together we achieved a lot: from more than two million produced vehicles at Mercedes-Benz Cars, record sales at Mercedes-Benz Vans to innovative transport solutions at Mercedes-Benz Trucks and long-term future scenarios for our German locations.”
Daimler has had a profit-sharing scheme in place for tariff-scale employees since 1997.
In recent years, Porsche has also rewarded employees with generous bonuses. In early 2017, for example, it rewarded over 20,000 workers with a 9111 euro ($11,340) bonus.
