Toyota is recalling approximately 49,000 Prius, Lexus RX, and Lexus NX vehicles due to an airbag issue.

The Japanese carmaker reports that the vehicles in question have airbag systems where an open circuit could be formed over time. In the event of this happening, the airbag warning light would illuminate and both the side and curtain airbags could fail to deploy in the event of an accident.

The Toyota Prius and Lexus RX models potentially affected are from the 2016 model year, while the recall also includes both 2015 and 2016 Lexus NX models.

Owners will be informed by first-class mail starting late March. To resolve the issue, Toyota’s and Lexus’ dealership mechanics will inspect the serial number of the airbag sensors and replace them with new ones if necessary, free of charge of course.
