Have you ever driven on a mountain road thinking what would happen if a landslide occurred at the moment your passing by? Well, this nightmare turned into a frightening reality for a couple in Greece when a large boulder rock landed on the bonnet of their car while driving through the mountains..
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, October 17, on a road close to Arachova which is about two hours northwest of Athens. The older generation Volkswagen Polo (2005-2009) was moving at normal speeds when it got hit by the falling rock. Two more cars were passing through at the same time with the drivers avoiding the debris.
As you can see from the video showing the aftermath of the crash, the rock opened a hole on the bonnet causing heavy damages to the engine bay. The weight of the boulder is evident from the stress on the suspension, the flat tire and the huge dent on the hood of the subcompact.
Thankfully, the driver was calm enough to stop the car safely. Despite their initial shock, both passengers exited the car without any injuries, looking at each other in disbelief. Speaking to local media the driver admitted that if the rock fell a few inches back they would probably be dead. While the couple feels lucky to be alive, considering the incredibly low possibilities of passing through at the exact same time the landslide occurred, we’d say they’re on the unlucky side.

Greece went through bad weather last week with plenty of rainfall which probably caused the landslide. The odd thing is that there was a protective net on the side of the road but the metal structure wasn’t strong enough to stop the heavy rock from ending up on the beaten track.
