After teasing us with its revving sound, Chevrolet has unveiled the ZZ632/1000 V8: their “biggest, baddest crate engine ever”. The mill will debut at the 2021 SEMA in November with the first deliveries expected in early 2022.
The ZZ632 is a big block V8 based on a similar block as the ZZ572 that was introduced with the COPO Camaro. However, as the name suggests the displacement has increased even further to a massive 632 cubic inches (10.35 liters) from the original 572 cubic inches (9.4 liters).
The cast-iron block is combined with a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connective rods, forged aluminum pistons, aluminum heads, port fuel injection, and a CNC-machined intake manifold.

According to Chevrolet and despite being naturally aspirated, the ZZ632 produces a massive 1,004 hp (749 kW / 1,018 PS) and 876 lb-ft (1,188 Nm) of torque, running on 93-octane gas, and revving up to a 7,000 rpm redline. This makes it more powerful than the Dodge Hellephant crate engine and possibly from the upcoming Ford Megazilla that is still under development.
Chevrolet hasn’t disclosed pricing for the flagship crate motor which will be available through Chevrolet Performance dealers from early 2022. Now we have to find a vehicle with enough space to fit this monstrous unit and make good use of all its naturally aspirated horsepower.
