The Lotus Emira will be the final sports car the automaker builds with an internal combustion engine and Harry Metcalfe recently had the opportunity to check it out.

Metcalfe has placed an order for an Emira and headed to the company’s headquarters to speak with the head of Lotus design, Russell Carr, while also confirming the final spec of his car. He also went for a passenger ride in a prototype around the Hethal test circuit.

Two different variants of the Emira will be available to customers. Sitting at the base of the range will be a variant with an AMG-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that pumps out roughly 360 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. This four-cylinder will be coupled exclusively to an AMG seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Customers after more power and a manual transmission can opt for a larger 3.5-liter supercharged Toyota V6 that’s previously been available in the Elise and Exige. This engine is good for 395 hp and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) and in addition to being offered with a six-speed manual, can be paired to a six-speed automatic.

While dreaming up his perfect Emira, Harry decided that he will have it painted in Nimbus Grey, a color which really brings out some of the car’s key design elements. He also liked the idea of the lower black pack that has the rear diffuser, side skirts, and front splitter painted, well, black and opted for silver wheels and silver brake calipers. As for the interior, he chose to have the seats finished in black Alcantara with grey contrast stitching.
