Given the rarity of the Porsche Carrera GT, as well as its rapidly-increasing value on the used car market, one could excuse owners for locking up their cars in storage and starting to view them as investments. Evidently, the owner of this example isn’t like that.

This particular Carrera GT is registered in Germany and AutoTopNL recently had the opportunity to drive it along an unrestricted section of the Autobahn. They didn’t just cruise down the highway in the mid-engined supercar either but set about seeing what kind of speeds they could achieve.

The Carrera GT is powered by a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 that is good for 603 hp at 8,000 rpm and 435 lb-ft (590 Nm) at 5,750 rpm. While those figures may not seem all that remarkable by modern-day supercar standards, the free-revving nature of Porsche’s V10 simply cannot be replicated by any forced induction engine. It also happens to produce one of the finest soundtracks of any production car ever designed.

After jumping into the driver’s seat, AutoTopNL was able to accelerate from 100 km/h to 200 km/h (62 – 124 mph) in 7.09 seconds and with the throttle planted firmly to the floor, the car ran from 200 km/h to 250 km/h (124 mph – 155 mph) in 6.74 seconds and completed the 200 km/h – 300 km/h (124 mph – 186 mph) sprint in 20.81 seconds. The driver was brave enough to keep accelerating until the speedometer hit 312 km/h (193.8 mph).
