If you wanted to sum up the spirit of SEMA in one car, you do a lot worse than this incredible 2JZ-swapped Lamborghini Gallardo from Street Aero Parts.

There’s nothing wrong with the V10 that Lamborghini fitted at the factory, and plenty of tuners have twin-turbocharged those motors to spectacular effect. But SEMA is all about pushing boundaries and doing things differently. And a Gallardo with a Supra mill behind the seats is definitely a new one on us.

Street Aero Parts’ Bryce Yaeger tells the 1320Video YouTube channel in this film that he was inspired to kick off the build because when he initially floated the idea, friends said it couldn’t be done. And there must have been times during the build when that seemed true. Having mated the Toyota inline six with the Gallardo’s six-speed manual transmission and attempted a test-fit, the Street Aero guys discovered the longer 2JZ block extended 6-8 inches into the cabin.

The solution was to stretch the frame by 4-5 inches, and that was by no means the only modification made to the Gallardo. There’s a new pushrod suspension sytstem, 3D-printed fenders that will soon be replaced by carbon versions, and holes in the doors reminiscent of a McLaren Senna’s.

And of course the 2JZ wasn’t left stock, as is clear by the size of the turbo poking out of the engine bay. Well, you could hardly yank a 500-hp motor and sub-in a 300-hp alternative, could you? In fact, Yaeger claims the engine build started with the turbo, and the rest of the spec was decided based on what would be necessary to get the 85 mm turbo working.

Bryce claims the stroked six is built to be safe at 1500 hp, but he is actually aiming for a reliable 1000 hp. Even dialled back to that lower output this Gallardo would be twice as powerful as it was when it left the factory, and given how bare the interior is, you can imagine it’s a fair bit lighter, too.

Are you digging this Supra-ized Lambo or is it a mod too far?
