Buick has announced plans to introduce two new concepts at the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 19th.
Kicking things off is the Smart Pod concept, which is described as a “bold new vision for future hub-to-hub luxury travel.”
Buick didn’t go into many specifics, but confirmed the Smart Pod is an autonomous electric vehicle that is based on GM’s Ultium platform. That isn’t much to go on, but it sounds like the concept could be a luxurious version of the Cruise Origin.
While that remains to be seen, the teaser image shows the concept will have a lounge-like interior with flower vases as well as a widescreen display. We can also see what appears to be a leather and wood coffee table. Buick added the concept will offer “world-class safety, comfort and seamless connectivity.”

On the minivan side of things, Buick will introduce a GL8 Flagship concept that embodies their “vast experience and user insights in China’s premium MPV segment over the past two decades.”
The company didn’t provide many details, but said the concept will have a “more modern expression of the brand’s traditional MPV aesthetics” as well as the “latest industry technology.” The near production concept “not only provides a preview of Buick’s new forward-looking MPV styling and technology,” but also demonstrates their long-term commitment to “push the boundaries in the high-end luxury MPV segment.”
The teaser for the GL8 Flagship isn’t very revealing, but it apparently shows a floating center console for second-row passengers. The image is a bit perplexing, but we can see wave-like accents and what we assume are two rotary controllers.
