Tesla will recall several thousand 2021 Model S and Model X vehicles due to an airbag issue.
An investigation from a Mexican supplier revealed that the wrapping and scoring processes used on the cover door could lead to the airbag catching on the cover door during deployment, potentially causing a tear in the in the airbag cushion fabric rendering it ineffective.
A recall notice issued with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that the supplier started to produce the faulty airbag door covers on June 29, 2021 and continued to produce them until September 8, 2021.

As a precautionary measure, Tesla has announced that it will recall 2021 Model S vehicles produced between June 21, 2021 and September 29, 2021 as well as 2021 Model Xs built between September 3, 2021 and September 23, 2021. A total of 7,600 vehicles are involved in the recall.
Tesla will fix the issue by simply replacing the driver airbag on all affected vehicles. The replacement features a new design that introduces reinforcement in the cushion fabric where the tear could occur.
All Tesla stores and service centers were notified of the recall on or before November 10, while owners will be notified via mail on January 7, 2022.
This recall comes just a couple of weeks after nearly 12,000 Model S, Model 3, Model Y and Model X models were recalled due to a software communication error that could result in a false forward collision warning and a false automatic emergency braking event.
