Honda‘s newest Civic Si has proven to be a hit, but one thing that left a few people wanting more was its power output. Given such a radical change in design, many also thought the car would come with a healthy power boost, but it was actually down 5 horsepower compared to the outgoing model. However, those were just the numbers Honda was claiming, and after putting it on a dyno, it was found that the Si was actually making a lot more.

For some context, the outgoing Civic Si made 205 hp (208 PS / 153 kW) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. The new Si, at least according to Honda, makes 200 hp (203 PS / 150 kW) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) of torque. That’s the same amount of torque, and as mentioned before, 5 hp (5 PS / 3 kW) less than the outgoing model, hence why some people were disappointed. That being said, peak torque in the new Civic Si comes in 300 rpm earlier than the outgoing car, so there is that as a plus.

However, after renowned Honda tuner Hondata put the car on their dyno, they found peak output to be 222 hp (225 PS / 166 kW) and 233 lb-ft (316 Nm) of torque, which is 22 hp (22 PS / 16 kW) and 41 lb-ft (56 Nm) of torque more than advertised and 17 hp (17 PS / 13 kW) and 41 lb-ft (56 Nm) of torque more than the previous car. Not bad if you ask us, and when coupled with the new car’s supposedly sharper handling, it should make for a perfect affordable sports sedan and a great continuation of what the Si badge stands for.
