More Porsche owners than ever will now be able to track their lap times and improve their driving thanks to the newly announced expansion of the Porsche Track Precision App (PTPA).
Effective immediately, the app will be available to owners of the Taycan, the Panamera, and the Cayenne. The one caveat, though, is the vehicle must have the Sport Chrono package installed to be able to use the app.
Porsche argues that its performance lineup isn’t limited to vehicles with two doors and points to recent lap records (for their segments) set by the Taycan Turbo (2019), the Panamera Turbo S (2020), and the Cayenne Turbo GT (2021) at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife as evidence of their vehicles’ performance bona fides.

By expanding the availability of the app, more owners will be able to tap into the true performance potential of their vehicles. The app is not just a data recorder and, used correctly, it can also act as a driving coach thanks to its data visualization feature.
The PTPA accesses control unit information in the vehicle via a WiFi connection with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. Through that, it can read vehicle position, speed, rpm, braking force, steering angle, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, and other relevant telemetry data.
Moreover, the PTPA can record lap times when you’re at a circuit and film the racing line if you want it to. These functions can be displayed via the PCM system via Apple CarPlay and, once you’re done, your performance can be analyzed and compared to other drivers’ collected data. The app has data about more than 300 race tracks around the world.
Along with expanding the availability of the PTPA, Porsche also says that it will add more features to the app in 2022.
