The Hoonicorn is fast becoming the stuff of legends, so much so that it’s already racing against cars it has inspired.

In this Ford v Ferrari battle, the 1,400 hp (1,419 PS/1,044 kW) twin-turbo Mustang takes on a 2013 F12berlinetta with two turbos that are poking out through the hood. Built by Daily Driven Exotics, the owner openly admits he was inspired by the Hoonicorn.

After its engine modification regimen, the Ferrari makes 1,000 hp (1,014 PS/746 kW) to the rear wheels and generates enough heat to melt the dash material that’s near the window. It is, though, still mostly stock, which puts it at a bit of a disadvantage.

Weighing in at 3,800 lbs (1,724 kg), it’s quite a bit heavier than the 2,998 lbs (1,360 kg) Mustang. Although it has an extra gear (for a total of seven), the Mustang drives two extra wheels, which is an advantage on the drag strip.

Indeed, in the first 1,000 ft (305-meter) standing-start race, the Hoonicorn, driven by Lia Block, absolutely walks all over the Ferrari. Seeing as how Block’s reactions were much better than her competitor’s, and the Ferrari’s driver complaints of clutch problems, they opt to give the Italian car a head start.

We won’t spoil the results, but it should serve as a testament to the Hoonicorn‘s wild performance that even with the Ferrari rolling across the starting line at 60 mph, the race is a close one by the time the cars cross the line.
