A bold new variant of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has just been introduced in the U.S., dubbed the XRT and designed to be more rugged than the standard model.

All Tucson XRT models are based around the pre-existing SEL trim with the Convenience package but benefit from a host of visual alterations. Among these upgrades are exclusive front and rear fascias with rugged detailing and a particularly striking matte black finish.

Hyundai has also equipped the Tucson XRT with new wheel arch cladding and additional cladding on the rocker panels. There are also a pair of black monotone wing mirrors and black 19-inch alloy wheels, also with a design more fitting of a proper off-roader. Further adding to the aggressive looks of the SUV are dark side window surrounds, approach lighting, side steps, cloth interior seating finished in black, a black headliner, a tow hitch, and roof cross rails.

Given that the XRT is based on the Tucson SEL with Convenience Package, it includes features like a hands-free smart liftgate, 10.25-inch, Hyundai Digital Key, wireless charging pad, ambient interior lighting, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dual automatic temperature control, and soft-touch door panels. There is also an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a BlueLink Connected Care Package.

The 2022 Tucson XRT is available with the SUV’s standard 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 187 hp at 6,100 rpm and 178 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. It is offered with or without HTRAC AWD.

Prices for the new SUV start at $32,625 in front-wheel drive and $34,125 for the all-wheel drive, both including a $1,225 destination charge.
