Hyundai has released the first teaser image of the upcoming Kona Electric together with a date for its online premiere, set for February 27.
The new electric model will be revealed “digitally” ahead of its world premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
The teaser image doesn’t reveal much, apart from the general silhouette of the vehicle and what looks like a new front-end treatment. This makes sense and it was expected since electric powertrains don’t require the same cooling with their internal combustion counterparts.
Speaking of which, Hyundai also spilled the first technical details. The new Kona Electric will be available with two different powertrain options, “offering customers one of the most powerful electric engines on the market”.
More importantly, the company targets to offer a class-leading driving range of up to 292 miles (470km) under the latest WLTP regulations, which sounds really impressive.
The new Hyundai Kona Electric is also said to offer a fun-to-drive character and come packed with a long list of active safety and driver assistance technologies.
Hyundai will launch the Kona Electric in the European market in this summer, becoming the first manufacturer to offer a compact fully-electric SUV. All we have to do is wait until February 27 to find out more details.
