Lamborghini launched the limited-production Countach LPI 800-4 last August as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the iconic supercar, and it quickly became known that all 112 units had been sold out before the public unveiling at a price of $2.64 million each. Now, the company tells us that most of the buyers are owners of the original Countach as well, adding the modern version to their collection.
More specifically, Lamborghini said that most orders for the LPI 800-4 were placed by “enthusiasts who already own an original Countach model and couldn’t resist the temptation to configure their new Countach with the same colors as the classic one”. The 112 units of the supercar will be delivered to their owners throughout 2022, since production will commence soon after the last Aventador leaves the Sant’Agata factory.

We might have only seen the Countach LPI 800-4 in the white shade of the presentation model with carbon-fiber accents and a red interior, but as with every limited-production model, there should be plenty of customization options from Lamborghini’s dedicated Ad Personam program. It will be interesting to see new color combinations matching the older models, especially since most owners will have them in pairs, making a great scenario for a dual photoshoot.
The company didn’t miss the chance and photographed the Countach LPI 800-4 alongside the gorgeous Countach LP500 Reconstruction. The latter is an exact recreation of the now-defunct original prototype created by the brand’s Polo Storico department for an important Lamborghini customer and it took 25,000 hours of work to complete.

Like all derivatives of the original Countach that was produced between 1971 and 1990, the reincarnation is powered by a mid-mounted V12 engine. However, the new model which is based on the Aventador’s carbon-fiber monocoque is using mild-hybrid technology from the Sián FKP 37, meaning it gets a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, a 48-Volt e-motor, an automatic gearbox, and a supercapacitor producing a combined 803 hp (599 kW / 814 PS).
Recently, the celebrations for the Countach’s 50th anniversary were completed with a meeting hosted by CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Federico Foschini, CTO Maurizio Reginani, and Head of Design Mitja Borkert. The high-ranking officials were joined by Stephen Bayley, a writer, curator, critic, design expert, and founder of London’s Design Museum, who was featured in a video talking about icons including famous buildings in large cities like Paris or London, leading the conversation to the Countach and what makes it so special.
