The era of YouTube and social media has seriously blurred the lines between reality and entertainment (read views) videos. This clip from Finnish YouTube channel Pommijätkät, whose name translates to ‘Bomb Dudes’, would have us believe that a disgruntled owner of a Tesla Model S approached them to blow up the EV.
In the video that’s available with English subtitles, Tuomas Katainen explains that his 2013 Model S recently experienced a host of issues, forcing him to have it towed to a Tesla service center. Four weeks later after taking a look at the car, Tesla informed the owner that it would need a new battery pack which would cost €20,000 ($22,480).
Katainen decided against getting the car repaired and instead thought it would be fun to blow it up, perhaps hoping that the ad revenue generated from the video would help him buy a new car. Or maybe he was so miffed that he decided to destroy the car anyway.

To seal the Tesla’s fate, Katainen strapped 30 kg of dynamite to the exterior of the Model S and put a doll of Elon Musk in the driver’s seat. The car was then parked below a small rocky cliff.
High-definition, slow-motion cameras captured the explosion in full and while it’s never nice to see a car unnecessarily destroyed like this, it is fascinating to watch the car engulfed in a fireball and the shockwave pulsing through the air.
The 30 kg of dynamite used was more than enough to completely annihilate the car, leaving nothing but shattered parts strewn across the snow.
Real or fake? Who knows, but either way, we will say that just 3 days after it was published, the video is already the channel’s most popular one by far with over 752,000 views and counting.
