Maserati debuted its MC20 coupé flagship last year and the time for the convertible variant to shine quickly approaches as the carmaker released its first official teaser photos. A fully camouflaged test car was photographed in Modena with a special cloud-motif wrap since this MC20 will be able to offer a perfect view of the sky.
While the sky-themed wrap is covering all of the bodywork, making the prototype look like a Christmas present, we can detect a few design changes over the coupé variant. Naturally, these are focused on the A-pillars, the roofline, and the rear end.

Maserati didn’t show us the tail but from the top view, we can notice the different roof structure, a new panel replacing the rear windshield, and a different design for the rear deck. We guess that this part is hiding the roof-reclining mechanism, converting the mid-engined Maserati to an exotic convertible. The company says that the body is still made of carbon fiber and other composite materials.
The MC20 convertible will most likely retain the mid-mounted twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS) and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque. The coupé accelerates from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h), but it is possible that the convertible will be slightly slower due to the added weight and slight differences in aerodynamics.
Following the coupé and convertible variants, the range of the MC20 will grow with the addition of a fully electric version, in line with Maserati’s electrification strategy for its complete lineup. Maserati didn’t set a date for the debut of the MC20 convertible but judging from the teaser we suspect it will arrive in early 2022, alongside the postponed premiere of the Grecale SUV.
