Ford is recalling a number of Transit and Transit Connect vans in the United States as their driveshafts and panoramic roof could fall off the vehicle. The recall is thought to affect just under 5,000 vehicles total between the two models.

The first vehicle affected by the recall is certain 2020 Transit models equipped with all-wheel drive. It was found that the bolts attaching the rear driveshaft to the transfer case could become loose or damaged, which could result in separation of the driveshaft from the transfer case, and in turn, a loss of power to the rear wheels or even unintended movement when stationary if the parking brake is not engaged.

It is possible that up to 4,548 Transits are affected, and Ford will be sending out a notification letter by January 31st, 2022. The letter will instruct owners to bring their vehicle to a Ford dealership, where they will inspect and replace the driveshaft bolts as necessary free of charge.

The other vehicle affected by the recall is certain 2014 Transit Connect models equipped with a panoramic glass roof. An inadequate bond of the roof to the vehicle may be present, which could result in the roof coming off the vehicle altogether while driving and potentially increase the likelihood of a crash.
