Chevrolet Previews $30,000 Equinox EV Launching In 2023, Confirms Electric Blazer Too

General Motors has announced electric versions of the Chevrolet Equinox crossover SUV and Blazer SUV, both scheduled to launch in 2023 (as 2024 models). The confirmation came during GM CEO Mary Barra’s online keynote speech at CES 2022. 

Along with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, the announcements of the Equinox EV and Blazer EV form a crucial part of General Motor’s electric-car strategy for 2023, with three new models joining the Bolt and Bolt EUV.

As with the Silverado EV, the Equinox EV and Blazer EV will be based on General Motor’s scalable Ultium platform, featuring floor-mounted batteries in a modular skateboard-style architecture.

Equinox EV Previewed

The Equinox EV will be an all-new model, not based on the ICE car. The new EV is billed as an “affordable, functional compact SUV.” Slated to go on sale for an MSRP of around $30,000, it will undercut Ford’s Mach-E and VW’s ID.4 by some margin, as General Motors seeks to offer more affordable ways of getting people into their EVs.

Along with the announcement, a handful of renderings of the Equinox EV were released previewing the new car. The sleek silhouette looks to be sportier than the ICE model while riding closer to the ground. Chevrolet’s interior renderings show a cabin dominated by a widescreen panel in the center, but with a reasonably conventional button layout, hinting that changes to a production-ready model would be minimal.

Also revealed was that both fleet and retail versions will be available, as well as LT and RS trims. Technical specs have yet to be released, but if Chevrolet is gunning for the likes of the Mustang Mach-E, the Equinox EV’s range would likely be in the 250-300 mile ballpark.

“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president.
