High-revving, naturally aspirated V12s will soon be retired but before that happens, a number of exciting new cars are hitting the market with some pretty remarkable engines.
Joining the likes of the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Gordon Murray T.50, the Pagani Huayra R is equipped with a naturally aspirated V12. This engine took more than two years to design and develop and churns out 838 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque from its 6.0 liters. However, it’s not the impressive figures that make this engine remarkable but rather the glorious soundtrack it produces.

The Pagani Huayra R is a track-limited beast and not only does its free-revving V12 sound unlike any other on the market, but it is also reminiscent of a V12 or V10-powered Formula 1 car. Pagani obviously spent a lot of time ensuring this engine would sound as good as possible and, as we’re sure you will agree, they have done a fantastic job with it.
This engine revs through to 9,000 rpm and is coupled to a six-speed sequential transmission developed in partnership with HWA AG that weighs 176 lbs (80 kg) and uses a triple-plate clutch. Contributing to the car’s stunning soundtrack are the four equal-length exhaust pipes.
Pagani made a number of other upgrades to the Huayra R over the road car. For example, a new monocoque and a chrome-molybdenum alloy steel front frame contribute to a 16 per cent increase in torsional rigidity and a 51 per cent increase in flexural rigidity.
