The Lucid Air has proven itself to be one of the most exciting and innovative EVs to launch in memory but just how quick is it down the quarter-mile?
While the vast majority of Lucid Air owners will never go anywhere near a drag strip, performance metrics have become a key selling point for flagship EVs like this, as well as the likes of the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. Eager to see just how quick it is, Brooks from the DragTimes channel on YouTube headed to Hennessey Performance to put their Air to the test.

The example featured is the flagship Air Dream Edition Performance which has been promoted as the most powerful and quickest variant on offer. It is powered by a pair of electric motors pumping out 1,111 hp and can apparently hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.5 seconds while sprinting through to 168 mph (270 km/h).
During the first test down the drag strip, Brooks recorded a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, or 2.7 seconds with a 1-foot rollout, and a quarter-mile time of 10.2 seconds. While these figures are slightly below Lucid’s claims, the car did suffer some wheelspin off the line. In subsequent tests, it recorded a quarter-mile time of 10.09 seconds and then 10.04 seconds, both very impressive times.
While these figures don’t quite match the Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid is developing a tri-motor version of the Lucid Air that has already been shown to run the quarter-mile in 9.2 seconds.
