Most of us have experienced the temptation to have a bit of fun with our cars in wintry conditions, but when doing so, it’s always important to consider any potential consequences. But one woman in Canada must not have got the memo as her Scion tC broke through a frozen lake and sunk to the bottom.
While that might sound like an interesting story, though, it isn’t even the beginning. First off, this wasn’t a case of someone crashing off the road into a lake. A security camera video posted to Twitter shows that the woman was intentionally speeding around on the ice in her bright yellow Scion tC. That can sometimes work depending on the location and how cold it is, but obviously, in her case, it didn’t.

Second, as mentioned before, her car obviously managed to fall through the ice. But third, and possibly most bizarre, is that while she managed to escape from the car, rather than jumping off it as it sank, she stood on top to take a selfie. Yes, a selfie. We can understand wanting to capture a moment on camera, but is too much.
Having suffered no injuries, the woman had to be rescued by neighbors in a kayak according to CTV News Ottawa. Police subsequently charged her with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. “Another reminder that ‘No Ice Is Safe Ice’,” they said in a statement. “Please use extreme caution this winter season.” They also mentioned that the vehicle was in the water and could be dangerous for people to approach.
