Spy photographers snapped the Land Rover Defender 130 last summer and now the model has been revealed by the patent office.
First noticed by Autoweek.nl, the images show the Defender 130 will be instantly recognizable as it’s simply a stretched Defender 110.
While this was to be expected, we can see the model will have a relatively flat roof and a significantly longer rear end. This change necessitated longer side glass, lengthened Alpine windows, and a bigger rear overhang. The latter could impact the Defender’s off-road capability, but the extended length will be appreciated by anyone who’s had the misfortune of sitting in the 110’s tiny third-row.
Driven: Land Rover’s New Defender Might Be The Ultimate SUV
Land Rover hasn’t said much about the model, but a presentation from 2019 suggested the Defender 130 will be an eight seater that measures 200.8 inches (5,100 mm) long. If that number pans out, the model would be 13.4 inches (340 mm) longer than the Defender 110 despite sharing the same 118.9 inch (3,020 mm) wheelbase.
Engine options will presumably be shared with the Defender 110 and this means we can expect a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. It should be joined by a hybridized 3.0-liter inline-six developing 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. There could also be a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 518 hp (386 kW / 525 PS) and 625 lb-ft (846 Nm) of torque.
Last March, Jaguar Land Rover CFO Adrian Mardell said the Defender 130 would arrive within the next 18 months so that suggests the model will be introduced by the end of August.
