First developed as a radio command car for the Swedish army, the Volvo TP21 is actually a very rare vehicle. This one looks less like it belongs on the battlefield than on an episode of Pimp My Ride, though, and it’s for sale at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction.
Heavily modified for the 2018 SEMA show, this yellow custom car was inspired partially by the nickname soldiers gave the TP21 in its day and partially by wanton excess. Lovingly called “Sugga,” which is Swedish for sow, they were inspired by the vehicle’s prominent snout and its rounded rear end.
Under the unusual engine cover there is a 572ci (9.3-liter) Chevrolet V8 that provides this vehicle with 620 hp (628 PS/462 kW) and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque. The engine, the seller reports, is connected to a TH475 three-speed automatic transmission.

It also gets such modern amenities as power steering, air conditioning, GPS navigation, a retractable LCD TV in the back seat, a TracVision mobile satellite system, and a PS4. More of a tailgater than an off-roader, the trunk also features a retractable beverage cooler and another LCD TV with exterior speakers that are hidden in the fuel cans. Inside, a custom brown leather interior ought to swaddle you in sumptuous comfort.
Although this vehicle is undeniably impressive, it may actually offend some car nuts with a bent for preservation. Volvo only ever produced 720 TP21 Radio Command Cars and few are known to exist today.
Barrett-Jackson provides no estimates for its value. It is offered without reserve, though, so you might get a bargain if you play your cards right. If you love this car but aren’t in Scottsdale, that’s okay, you can also register to bid online.
