Mazda announced pricing and specifications for the new CX-50 today. The (more) off-road-focused SUV is similar in size to the CX-5, though it’s a little bit bigger in most directions and, consequently, it’s a little bit more expensive than the well-known crossover.

Prices for the new CX-50 start at $26,800 ($28,025 w/ $1,225 destination fee) for the 2.5 S Package, which features a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that makes 187 hp (190 PS/139 kW). That’s $900 more than the $25,900 CX-5 and the trim offers an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, and an array of standard safety technology.

It also gets 17-inch Gray Metallic alloy wheels, LED headlights, and standard AWD. The same engine is offered in the 2.5 S Select, which adds dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped shifter and steering wheel, 40/60 split-folding rear seats, and a 10.25-inch center display.

The CX-50 2.5 S Preferred Package adds heated side mirrors and windshield wipers, front and rear armrest storage, a power liftgate, and an eight-way adjustable driver’s sear. The 2.5 S Preferred Plus, meanwhile, further adds a power-sliding panoramic moonroof.

The CX-50 2.5 S Premium Package also makes use of the standard engine and offers a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather seats, and premium trim inserts. The Premium Plus Package further adds 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors, a heads-up display, and ventilated front seats.

Turbo power available

The CX-50 Turbo Package, meanwhile, brings a more powerful, 2.5-liter turbocharged engine to the party, which makes 256 hp (191 kW/259 PS). That brings the vehicle’s towing capacity up from 2,000 lbs (907 kg) to 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg). It also gets standard steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles, exclusive turbo badging, larger exhaust pipes, LED taillights, and adaptive LED headlights.

The 2.5 Turbo Premium Package adds the Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, an active driving display, a heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats. The 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus Package adds a frameless, auto-dimming mirror on top of that, as well as, heated rear seats, wireless phone charger, a navigation system, and traffic-sign recognition for the active driving display.

Finally, the CX-50 range tops off with the 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition, which will only launch later this year. It is designed specifically for outdoorsiness and comes with 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, side rocker garnishes, a headlight garnish, distinctive hood graphics, and a host of outdoor-specific accessories to aid the vehicle in off-roading. Pricing for this model will be announced later, but the rest of the range’s pricing is listed below, minus a $1,225 destination fee.
