The VW ID. Buzz is finally about to go on sale in Europe and we’re starting to get a closer look at the all-electric people mover. In a new video, DeMuro pours over every tiny detail (or is that quirks?) of the Euro-spec version and shows us if the wait might end up being worth all the delays VW has put us through.

The updated take on the original microbus has been teased since at least 2001 but  even today, it will be almost three more years before we see it in the USA. That’s because VW still hasn’t committed to exactly when the ID. Buzz will be sold in America aside from saying that it’s planned to launch sometime in 2024.

Thankfully, the example seen here is a near-production unit so we can learn quite a bit. For one, it looks remarkably unique and calls back to the original very clearly. The sides are almost completely upright and have almost no curve until the very top and bottom of the panel.

This unit has 21-inch wheels and to my eye, they actually look a little small for the vehicle’s size but take that as you will. For what it’s worth, this isn’t the full-size version coming to America either. That ID. Buzz will be stretched in the middle to offer more cargo space.

In the rear cargo area, DeMuro shows off little ID. Buzz easter eggs and how the load floor is actually higher than the rest of the cabin. That’s because the motor is back there and the battery pack under the cabin can sit lower. Despite that, it’s positively cavernous back there thanks to the straight sides. The only downside is that the rear seats can’t fold flat.

The passenger section of the cabin is delightfully quirky and practical as well. The front passenger door panel has its own USB-C power port and the driver has a pair of them just to the right of the steering wheel. The driver also gets to use pedals that feature ‘Play’ and ‘Pause’ button graphics like previous VW models.

They also have access to the center cargo storage block that sits between the two front seats. Not only is it easily removable but it’s quirky on its own. Two dividers are used in the top section, the first of which can double as a bottle opener and the second of which can also be used as an ice-scraper. Practicality is a huge highlight in this vehicle.

We also get a look at how the front of the ID. Buzz opens up. The panel actually hinges on the bottom and the top falls forward in what looks sort of like an odd mustache. Behind it, you’ll find the windshield wiper fluid reservoir and other electronic components.

All five seats look spacious and comfortable as the tall DeMuro demonstrates. That’s impressive since, again, the US version will be longer and have a third-row available. Sadly, we’ll just have to keep waiting to find out exactly how spacious it is until VW actually sells it here.
