Ontario Police Reveals Tesla Model X Cruiser, Not All Taxpayers Are Happy

Canada is the latest country to add a Tesla police cruiser in their lineup, which will be used to fight crime in Ontario.

Teased on social media over the last few days by Sergeant Kerry Schmidt, the Model X will be displayed at the 2018 Canadian International Auto Show that runs from February 16 to 25.

The electric SUV sports a classic black and white police livery, along with a set of roof-mounted emergency lights. The Ontario Provincial Police hasn’t released any details about it yet, but it could benefit from other upgrades compared to the regular EVs.

Pricing for a new Tesla Model X starts from CA$102,300 north of the U.S. border, before incentives, which equals to US$81,428 at today’s exchange rates. This has startled many Canadian tax payers, who weren’t happy with the investment.

Some of the comments posted on Facebook criticize the Ontario police department for spending that kind of money, not including the conversion to a patrol car.

However, some are congratulation the Canadian police for adopting electric cars and cannot wait to see it out on the roads.

Denver and Los Angeles PDs are already using the Tesla Model X as a police cruiser, while across the Atlantic, in Luxembourg, two more electric sedans are ready to patrol the streets. UK’s Scotland Yard is considering buying several Teslas too, as part of their upcoming fleet of 250 “alternative energy” cars.
