A single, low-resolution teaser image of VW’s new electric sedan has emerged online, previewing a familiar design for an electric VW.

VW has been developing its new electric sedan for quite some time and previewed it in both 2018 and 2019 with the ID.Vizzion and ID.Space Vizzion concepts. VW briefly teased it during its annual press conference and chief executive Herbert Diess confirmed that sales will start in 2023.

VW Aero B prototype

This low-resolution image captured by Motor1 previews the front-end design of the car, currently referred to as the Aero B or ID.Aero. Some familiar VW ID design cues stand out. For example, the car has a set of headlights similar to other ID models and also comes complete with a full-width LED light bar. The front bumper is also quite striking and certainly more muscular in appearance than the bumpers used by the ID.4 and ID.5.

The teaser image also offers us a glimpse of a sleek new wheel design with black and silver spokes.

Although technical specifications about the model remain under wraps, we know that it will use VW’s MEB platform and should borrow its battery pack and electric motors from other ID models. In all likelihood, rear- and all-wheel drive models will be offered and it’s claimed that an 84 kWh battery pack is also on the cards, reportedly rated at up to 435 miles (700 km) of range on the WLTP test cycle.

VW won’t just sell the new vehicle as a sedan either and has confirmed that it will spawn a Shooting Brake, which could be similar in shape to the aforementioned ID.Space Vizzion concept from 2019’s LA Auto Show.
