Porsche bosses met with execs from Apple and other tech companies late in 2021 to discuss possible joint projects, according to comments from Porsche CEO Oliver Blume reported by Reuters.
“We already have Apple CarPlay, we will expand on that,” Blume said during a video conference on the carmaker’s annual results. He claimed that the companies were “on the same wavelength” but that it was too soon to make any decisions on future projects.
There was no indication of exactly what kind of projects Apple and Porsche might have been considering. It could have been something simple related to in-car tech we might see in future Porsche models. Or it could be something much more serious.
Might Apple have settled on Porsche as the perfect partner to finally get its Apple Car project to the street? Imagine Porsche and Apple teaming up to create an entirely new lineup of cars to take on Tesla, blending Porsche’s engineering genius and Apple’s clean design and electronics tech.

Porsche and Apple are kindred spirits in many ways. They have hugely strong brands with aspirational appeal, and manage to shift enormous volumes of product each year despite those products costing more than rival products that sometimes perform at least as well, if not better, in key areas.
The union makes plenty of sense from Apple’s point of view. By hitching its trailer to Porsche, Apple could potentially sidestep much of the groundwork and cost involved in developing a car and the autonomous technology to go in it, and achieve a suggested 2025 on-sale date.
