A sketch posted to the GM Design Instagram page is raising questions about an upcoming Corvette SUV, as a few design cues are just a little bit too familiar.

The sketch was done by Jason Chen, who is a talented Creative Designer at GM, and shows just enough hints of Corvette to make us wonder what GM is up to.

First of all, the sketch only has two doors, immediately reminding us of the venerable sports car. The black boomerangs on the side hint at the side intakes of the C8 Corvette, while the headlights are reminiscent of the DRLs. The side skirts are also giving us big C7 vibes.

Chevrolet has hinted at an all-electric version of the Corvette, and the fact that this concept doesn’t have a grille means that it could be both SUV and EV rolled into one, which could make for an upscale proposal above the Ford Mustang Mach E.

In fact, GM’s presentation at CES featured a vehicle that looked quite a lot like this sketch, hidden in the background amongst two other electric vehicles.

For most people, a car is just transportation, and a two-seater sports car isn’t exactly the most practical vehicle. For this reason, SUVs have long been the best-selling models that a brand makes.

Names such as Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Lotus, and even Ferrari have built SUVs to try and entice more regular car shoppers. Heck, even at one point it seemed ridiculous that Porsche was releasing an SUV, and now they are the brand’s best-selling models.

It doesn’t sound so ridiculous then, that GM would take its flagship sports car and add a few extra doors and seats. We also never thought the mid-engined Corvette would happen, but here we are.
