Audi Hungaria is celebrating its 25th anniversary by announcing plans to begin production of the redesigned Q3 later this year.

As part of the preparations, Audi has built a new 80,000 square meter (861,112 sq ft) body shop, which features 700 robots, at their plant in Győr. The company’s workforce is also undergoing training and 168 pre-production models have already been built.

Audi didn’t say much about the crossover but previous spy photos have shown the model will have a familiar front fascia with a wide grille and angular headlights. Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the model adopts more dynamic bodywork and muscular rear haunches. We can also expect a tailgate-mounted spoiler and slender taillights.

While the current model rides on the PQ35 architecture, the redesigned Q3 will use the MQB platform which underpins everything from the Audi TT to the Volkswagen Golf. The change should improve drivability and comfort as well as reduce weight. Speaking of the latter, rumors have suggested the model could drop around 110 lbs (50 kg).

Under the hood, we can expect an assortment of petrol and diesel engines. Choices are expected to echo the Volkswagen Tiguan and include everything from an entry-level 1.5-liter four-cylinder to a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder producing around 400 PS (298 kW). There have also been rumors about plug-in hybrid and electric variants and the latter version could have a range of up to 300 km (186 miles) on a single charge.
