Most of what we can expect to see at the Geneva Motor Show this year will take some form or another as automobiles. But Peugeot has something else in store for us at the Swiss expo next month.

The French automaker’s design studio has prepared a giant lion sculpture to represent the brand’s emblem. The monument stands 15.7 feet tall and 41 feet long . Its imposing geometric design seeks to modernize the logo that has stood for the marque since its inception 160 years ago.

The oversized sculpture is the latest project from the Peugeot Design Lab, the PSA Group division that seeks to apply its know-how outside the automotive sphere. We’ve seen the studio in recent years design everything from sofas to surfboards and helicopters to electric bicycles.

“The designers have shaped an iconic, timeless design throughout this monumental Lion, with flowing, sculpted surfaces,” said Peugeot design chief Gilles Vidal. “Its spectacular dimensions emphasise the Lion’s solid, powerful and unshakeable character. Its posture, standing up, moving forwards determinedly but without aggression, conveys a serenity and a confidence in the future.”

Sounds good to us, but it won’t be the only thing Peugeot will display at the Geneva show next month. Inside the hall we can expect to see the new 508 sedan, heralding a new styling language for the marque, and perhaps the new Partner van as the counterpart to sister-brand Citroen’s new Berlingo. Don’t expect to see anything from Opel, however, as the German automaker recently acquired by PSA will reportedly be sitting out the show with nothing new to display.
