It’s no secret that the used car market is doing pretty well and classic used cars are doing even better. At the same time, we wonder exactly how the public will feel about this AC Cobra ‘Tribute Car” (aka replica) that’s based on a BMW Z3.
Listed on eBay for just 7,950 Euro, or about $8,576, this sports car might just turn more heads per dollar than just about anything else out there. While the BMW base is pretty easy to spot, it’s certainly not the worst kit car, tribute car, or custom creation we’ve ever seen.
Built by a company called Classic Coachworks, this AC Cobra – Z3 mashup needs a considerable amount of work before it’s showroom ready. Aside from a new paint job, it’ll also require quite a bit of attention in the cabin where the seats are really showing their age.

Under the hood is a BMW inline-six with 150 hp (110 kW) that’s attached to a manual transmission and rear-wheel-drive. It and the rest of the chassis has 110,000 miles (178,000 Km) on it so the wear and tear aren’t too shocking. According to the ad, the drivetrain itself is in good working order.
From what we can see, there’s no question that this is a striking little sports car. The rear three-quarter view is especially attractive and close to the original AC Cobra shape. The mid-section can’t really hide its roots though and the front seems to be a blend that’s not all the way finished.
Of course, if you get down low and look at this thing straight on, it does look quite a bit like its AC muse. Interestingly, the entire hood along with the front fenders is a single piece, sort of like the “cofango” found on the Lamborghini Huracan STO.
So you tell us if you think this might be a decent deal because while very interesting, we’re not totally convinced. Apparently, for one person it seemed perfect, as the car was sold.
